Services
We provide a cross-section of services based in the three main tranches below. However, we also have a significant number of smaller clients who use our services in the North East of England.
Specialist DSEAR Consultant | Fire Engineer
I provide high-level technical consultancy for complex hazardous environments. I specialise in the intersection of traditional industrial fire safety and the emerging challenges of Grid-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Core Expertise:
Beyond the Standard Assessment
-
While many offer basic risk assessments, I provide deep-technical compliance throughout the entire lifecycle of a project:
-
Pre-DSEAR Design Reports: Identifying and mitigating explosive risks during the design phase to ensure safe, compliant plant layouts before construction begins.
-
DSEAR Reviews & Audits: Comprehensive evaluations of existing operations to ensure ongoing compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations.
-
Explosion Protection Documents (EPD): Expert drafting of technical documentation for global manufacturers, ensuring rigorous safety standards are met for high-risk equipment.
-
BESS Specialist: Leading-edge DSEAR assessments and fire strategies for grid-scale battery storage, managing the unique risks of thermal runaway and off-gassing.

Strategic Safety Documentation
I deliver the critical framework required for the HSE and Fire Authorities to approve high-hazard sites:
-
Full Fire Strategies tailored to industrial and commercial requirements.
-
Emergency Response Plans that are practical, engineered solutions—not just "off-the-shelf" templates.
-
Battery Safety Management Plans that provide insight for first responders on how to deal with
Diverse Sector Experience
My portfolio spans some of the UK’s most sensitive and logistically challenging environments:
-
Critical Infrastructure: HM Prisons and Government facilities.
-
Logistics & Retail: National Distribution Centres and large-scale warehousing.
-
Public & Heritage: museum laboratories utilising flammable and explosive substances
-
Energy & Manufacturing: Grid-scale BESS sites and complex industrial plants.

Professional Credentials
Under the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR), competency for an assessor is not defined by a specific qualification because no single license or internationally recognised body certifies this role. Instead, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)requires a "competent person," which is defined by a combination of practical factors rather than just academic
However, the nearest thing to a qualification for DSEAR is the four-day IFE Accredited Specialist DSEAR Certificate provided by DEKRA which I have.
Other example credentials include:
-
NVQ Level 5 in Fire Risk Assessment
-
NEBOSH Fire Safety & Risk Management
-
NEBOSH National General Certificate
-
Member: Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM)
-
Institute of Fire Protection Officers
-
Institute of Fire Engineers
-
Member: The Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET)

I worked closely with Mike whilst he was employed within my training company and whilst there, he was able to utilise his skills of writing successful tenders. Mike’s passion and attention to detail along with the approach he took to gathering the necessary information from the team was brilliant. Mike produced an effective, concise and compelling tender that had a very tight deadline attached to it. Not only were we successful but we also received the highest score out of all the other tenders submitted. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mike.
